Entryway Arches

An entryway arch surrounding your front door can add stunning appeal to your property. Designs

There are many different designs and styles of entryway arches that can frame or support your door or windows, at The Cantera Stone Source we can cater to all individual tastes and needs. In general there are six common styles of entryway arches; Roman, Segmental, Tudor, Flat, Gothic and Moorish.

• Roman arches are best described as semi-circle in shape, for they are rounded at the top. They are very strong designs and can still be found standing in the Coliseum today after hundreds of years.



• Segmental arches are also known as Syrian arches. They are shaped in the form of an eyebrow, for they are slightly rounded with a subtle point in the middle.



• Tudor arches are often referred to as a flattened Gothic arch. The reason is that they have less of a point at the top, but seem to be much wider than a Gothic arch; hence they are flattened versions of the Gothic arch.



• Flat arches are also referred to as Jack arches or Straight arches. They are simply designed and are a straight horizontal piece that runs directly on top of the entryway door.



• Gothic arches commonly frame about half the length of the entryway door. It has a narrow pointed opening. It can be seen in the cathedrals of the middle ages, such as in Notre Dame in Paris.



• Moorish arches are also referred to as Horseshoe arches, for they resemble the shape and contour of a horseshoe. The top of the arch is completely rounded and then before it ends, the tips curl in slightly.
